Many journalists work on irregular pay, short contracts or as stringers paid per story. When a medical emergency or a lost job hits, the first thing a family cuts back on is often the children’s education. SIJU’s scholarship was started to stop that from happening.
At the 2024 scholarship ceremony, students walked up to the stage with their parents, one family at a time. For many of those parents — reporters, photographers, camerapersons — it was a moment when their own work brought recognition to their children.
Who it is for
A stringer’s daughter whose family income stopped, the son of a mother working night shifts at a news desk, a student who keeps studying against the odds — the scholarship is meant for situations like these.
How it helps
Scholarships for school and college go to the children of journalists (with the parent’s Press ID) and to students from low-income families (with an income certificate). The money is paid directly into the student’s bank account.
2026: wings for 350 dreams
This year our goal is to support 350 students. If there is an eligible student in your family, apply today. If you want to help, your donation can keep a student in school.
